Luckily though, this is the information age, so you won't be condemned to live in a semi or uninformed state if you're willing to expend a little effort to fill the gap in your knowledge. If you're looking for answers, use this guide to give you some hints on where to go looking for the answers.
Trade Periodicals People who are already very familiar with a topic and wish to delve into its nooks and crannies often find their thirst for knowledge quenched by trade periodicals. Platinum bullion traders might subscribe to CNN Money and literary writers might regularly read the New Yorker. You don't have to subscribe to a periodical to reap its knowledge, however. You can use library database searches to find articles on particular topics, most of which, even for back issues, are scanned and available in full online. Ask an Expert Of course, you'll have to go down a lot fewer dead ends if you tailor your search just right, and the best way to do that is to hone it by asking a person, who can ask questions to clarify what exactly it is you want. So if you want to know how shrink sleeves are made, ask someone who works in a factory. If you want to know how to use a defibrillator, ask a doctor. Even if you don't know the right person, a reference librarian can usually help. |
